As I search for "public welfare" on Twitter, sooo many Indian posts are coming up saying Prime Minister Modi is PROMOTING PUBLIC WELFARE. It's hilarious because, in Japan, "on the ground of public welfare" is used only in the context that infringing people's freedom is tolerable.
The chaos seems to me that it comes from the difference in terminology in English and Japanese. In Japanese, "public welfare" is a legal concessional term to restrict individual freedom (公共の福祉) and the money people unavoidably in poverty receives (生活保護) is termed by a different word, but in English, they are expressed in one word! The English chaotic terminology is causing chaotic misunderstanding. We cannot search for "on the ground of public welfare" on X! Why?
X’s search function is restricted for a lot of English terms, such as “on the ground of public welfare” and “same-sex marriage.” Are these taboos in English?
